Fund Raising

September 2007 – the year so far

A busy year for Chiltern Therapies.

In February Simon, along with a group of 16 other drummers, was lucky enough to visit  Senegal for a couple of weeks to learn djembe drumming from the Africans in Africa.   An amazing experience culminating in a performance in a local bar in Abene.  How many can claim to have done that?

Something unexpected, however, was to see just how green the countryside is.  Knowing that water was scarce, Simon expected to see a dry country with little vegetation.  This is not the case.   True the ground is sandy and dry with no grass but there are many trees and amazing coloured shrubs and bushes.  There is plenty of water.  It’s simply 3 or 4 metres down.

In April, once again, it was Marathon time and again we supported the Water Aid runners.   This year they raised over £100k to provide safe drinking water and sanitation where it most needed.

Having seen first hand, in Senegal, just how critical it is to have water (on one occasion getting down to just 1 bottle of water between 17!) we decided to raise money for WaterAid whilst in Scotland on holiday at the African Drum Village 2007.  We raised an amazing £382 in exchange for reflexology or massage sessions.

Wateraid were kind enough to acknowledge our donation and give us a little information about their work.  You can read their letter here.

November 2006

During November we attended 3 events to help them raise money for their causes.  Firstly, we attended a Salsa dance evening in High Wycombe to help raise money for SV2G  (Saint Vincents Second Generation).  This is a group aimed at helping second generation Caribeans and others learn about the Caribbean.  They work in the Wycombe area and visit local schools providing talks and information on the Caribbean Islands.  Surprisingly, most wanted neck and shoulders massaged, rather than legs.

Second, we attended a special Jazzercise event held in Beaconsfield.  More than 100 dancers got together and raised over £16000 for breast cancer research.

Third, we attended a BRE (Breakfast Referral Exchange) charity golf day, did some massage and provided a raffle prize of 1 hour deep tissue massage.  Over £4000 was raised to help with the Maplewood School hydrotherapy pool.

August 2006 – Chiltern Therapies returned to Glen Isla in the Scottish glens for another memorable drumming week.  (see here for the full story)

Feb 06Water Aid at the FLORA London Marathon  (23rd April)

Chiltern Therapies are pleased to announce that we will be one of the organisations supporting the Water Aid runners at the Flora London Marathon.  After their ordeal, the runners will be in much need of a massage to help soothe their tired and aching legs and feet.

Water Aid is a charity well known for the support they give to provide safe drinking water and sanitation anywhere it is needed.  During many years they have helped over 8.5million people.  Their aim, in their 25th year, is to reach the ambitious target of 10million people helped.

If you want to learn more about this excellent charity providing one of the basic fundamentals for life then log on to www.wateraid.org where they will welcome your support.
